Thirteen Fontana Swimmers go to the 2008 Southern California Junior Olympics
The Fontana Aquatics Club sent 13 swimmers to Mission Viejo to compete in the Junior Olympics from July 30-August 3.
Participants were: Adrian Cristobal, Morgan Dillon, Jeanette Dove, Lauryn Dove, Aaron Garcia, Alexa Melara, Carissa Melara, Baylee Morales, Sydnee Morales, Lao Ortiz, Olga Ortiz, Justin Rosas and Joshua Valdez.
Most of the swimmers improved their times. Olga Ortiz was a real stand out with first places in the 100 fly, 200 free, 100 free, 50 fly & 200 IM. In the 50 free she placed second. Her brother Lao also did well by placing in the top sixteen in all six of his events. Other top 16 finishers were: Lauryn Dove, Carissa Melara and Joshua Valdez.
The team will be participating in the La Jolla Rough Water Swim on September 7th. This is a 250 yard (under 12 years) to 1 mile (12 and over) ocean swim in La Jolla Cove.
As the Fontana Aquatics Club (FAC) begins its 2008 San Gorgonio summer league season, the swimmers have ended the winter season with a very successful year.
The team sent Jeanette Dove, Joshua Valdez & Carissa Melara to the Southern California Winter Invitational in Commerce to swim 9 events. Nine swimmers qualified for the Southern California Age Group Championships in Las Vegas. FAC sent Jeanette Dove, Aaron Garcia, Joshua Valdez, Carissa Melara, Alexa Melara, Olga Ortiz, Lau Ortiz, Adrian Cristobal, & Leslie Dove. From these swimmers, Carissa Melara & Olga Ortiz were chosen to go to the Festival meet, a first for FAC. Another first for the team was sending Jeanette Dove, Aaron Garcia, Joshua Valdez & Carissa Melara to the Q meet, a preliminary meet that sends swimmers to the Long Beach Grand Prix. Ten swimmers went to the Southern California Junior Olympics. Representing the team were Adrian Cristobal, Jeanette Dove, Leslie Dove, Carissa Melara, Lau Ortiz, Olga Ortiz & Joshua Valdez. Carissa Melara & Olga Ortiz are ranked in the top 16 in Southern California, Olga is nationally ranked.
Fontana sends 16 swimmers to 2007 Junior Olympics
Sixteen swimmers from Fontana Aquatics Club competed in
Santa Clarita August 1-5 in the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympic Long
Course (meters) Championship. The top 16
of each event went on to the finals, and most of the Fontana swimmers made it
to the final rounds; but Olga Ortiz led the way making it to the top 8 in all 6
of her events.

In addition to the Junior Olympics, the team came in second
overall in the Championship/Allstar weekend (July 14-15) for the San Gorgonio
Swim League. To top off all the team
records broken this year, a league record was broken in the Mixed 8 & under
Medley Relay. The following record
breakers came in with a time of 1:16.22:
Lauryn Dove, Justin Rosas, Alexa Melara, Ethan Trieu.
Fontana Aquatics takes First Place at the 2007 7th Annual
Chino Invitational
Competing against 16
other teams with a total of 249 entrants, Fontana Aquatics swimmers took home
80 individual trophies on June 16th, along with the first place team trophy.
Many of the athletes
did their best times at the meet, and two more team records were broken by Josh
Valdez (100 yard individual medley) and Aaron Garcia (100 yard freestyle). Josh Valdez also took the high point award in his age division, as well
as Olga Ortiz & Alexa Melara.
Many of the swimmers
are preparing for the Junior Olympics which takes place the first week of
August in Santa Clarita.

Fontana Aquatics wins first league meet of the season!
Fontana got off to a great start in the 2007 San Gorgonio League swim season with a 445-236 victory over Bloomington on May 12th.
In addition to the win, three old records were broken. Josh Valdez broke a 20 year old record in the 13-14 boys 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.16. He also broke a 15 year record in the 13-14 100 yard individual medley with 1:01.88. In the 13-14 100 girls breaststroke, Melissa Dooley broke an eight year record with a time of 1:16.68.

Eight swimmers competing in 2007 Southern California Spring Junior
Olympics
The Fontana Aquatics Club (FAC) is sending nine swimmers to
the Junior Olympics (JO’S). Eight qualify for the AAA Spring JO’s in Long Beach, March 7
through 11, 2007, while nine qualify so far for the AA Summer JO’s. This is
only the second time FAC has sent swimmers to the Spring event.
